There are few crypto currency which can be bought using fiat currency (USD, EUR etc.) For example, on coinbase and gdax one can buy Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum and Litecoin. And then these assets can be used to buy other altcoins. Coinbase is a great platform for beginners to buy and sell crypto. One can buy directly using credit /debit cards. Also it is possible to transfer money to your EUR or USD account on coinbase and use them to buy crypto. There are different charges levied by coinbase on different type of transactions. For debit and credit card transaction, fees is bit higher. Whereas if we buy using USD/EUR balance on coinbase account, then fees is comparatively lower. For latter case, one need to transfer money from bank account to coinbase EUR/USD account. And then use this money to buy Bitcoin, Ethereum etc.
I found best way to buy crypto using Gdax which is trading platform of coinbase. One can login to gdax.com using same credentials of coinbase account. Main difference between buying/selling crypo on dgax and coinbase is fees being charged and control over the price one want to buy/sell. On coinbase, there is no control over price as transaction is based on market price decided by coinbase at the moment of transaction. Also coinbase deducts fee for their service. On the other hand, since gdax is a trading platform, you can decide your ask/bid price and sell/buy these coins on that rate. You place order and whenever there is a trade in opposite direction with matching price, your trade will be executed. One can control buy/sell price and save fee on gdax by placing a "LIMIT" order as shown in below image:
Also worth noting that transfer of money or coins between coinbase and gdax is completely free. So one should take advantage of it and try to trade on gdax to maximize or decide benefits.
