Happy Dhanteras !

Kashiraj Divodas Dhanvantari was born in Varanasi and was king of Varanasi. (RV 10.179.2)

He is considered founder of the Indian school of medicine called Ayurveda. His origin day is celebrated annually as DHANVANTRI TRAYODASHI (Dhanteras), one day prior to DEEPWALI.

Dhanvantari is depicted with four hands, holding Shankha, Chakra, Jalauka (leech) and a pot containing rejuvenating nectar called amrita.

His descendants are probably the Ambasth Kayasthas of modern times.
