By February 2019, there is approximately 390000 Domestic Helpers (DH) working in Hong Kong (https://www.hlc.com.hk/en/domestic-helper.html).
From this number most of DH are from the Philippines, which is estimated as 213000 DH.
The interesting part is that due to the better English than Indonesian DH, most of Philippine DH are hired with the main duties to take care of children (as mentioned in the KL Home care web site). But from my personal experience and from other friends experience I would mention that take care of children is not the only duties. In general, we have long working hours, we have to take care of children part the day, but also we go from cooking to do the laundry, maintain the house clean, etc.
In the other hand, it looks as an advantage to live at our sponsor's home; but it is actually a big chance to have much more duties to do, even at late time.
Of course, if I had the opportunity to come back I will. As for most of us, the possibility to get a job at home is low. In addition, salaries are ridiculous. So, even if salaries in Hong Kong are the lowest for DH, we prefer it than the little salaries at home. At least during the years it is possible to work.
