Enter the world of pulsating effervescence of music combined with cocktail of complex and alluring patterns displayed via projection mapping.Feel and visually encounter every beat. Fall into a state of trance and let the music engulf and consume all of your senses. They very rightly say that music is food for the soul, every rhythm resonates with our heart beat. We live such fractured lives, we’re in a constant state of battle with our conscience, our soul gets wounded in the process. How do we heal ? How do we quench our soul’s thirst? That’s where the concept of Sufiism and mysticism comes in. Dhol is an inevitable component of Sufiism and the people who play the dhol are no ordinary people, they are the chosen ones who play only when their spiritual leaders command them to play. One such spectacle takes place at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jamal situated in the city of Lahore.Every thursday Pappu Sain the disciple of Shah Jamal plays dhol to commemorate and pay his respect to his spiritual leader. Hundreds gather to see this spectacular act of pure loyalty and love. The hypnotic music is enriched from age old folk traditions, evolving musicianship and the concept of synchronised harmony. It is truly an auditory marvel.Sain takes everyone on a spiritual journey by dexterously playing his dhol. Just like the whirling dervishes who don’t care about the worldly desires, the only thing significant to them is their connection with God. It’s a unique and special phenomenon. Yet the only thing which remains constant is the music. It ignites the fire within. It has something to offer to everyone irrespective of the age and gender. It takes us to a completely new dimension whilst standing still and takes us away from the mundane and the superficial. Be it Pappu Sain’s dhol, Zakir Hussain’s tabla, Ravi Shankar’s Sitar, Shashikala Dani’s Jal tarang or be it Beethoven’s piano, they all remind us of the transcendental importance of each person’s soul. So just stop, breathe and feel the music.
