Statistically Type 2 diabetes remission is rare...

Type 2 diabetes remission can occur in people who have not had weight loss surgery, but it is very, very rare. Applying the results of this study to the entire 25.6 million Americans with type 2 diabetes suggests that 384,000 people could have some type of remission in the next 7 years. However, only 1,800 people would have a remission lasting at least 5 years.
So rare that it has not been a target for treatment. The standards of care has settled for less ambitious and "safer" approach that "treat to failure". That means the prevailing treatment protocol will treat a patient towards progressive failure and complications, increasing medical dosage as the condition deteriorate progressively over the years. This accelerated aging and progression to diabetes complication has tragically come to be accepted as inevitable...
Yet over the last few years, there has been increasing anecdotal evidence that for many, Type 2 diabetes is easily reversible and remission is an achievable and maintainable goal.
- One) While the focus of diabetes treatment has been glucose centric, and targeted primarily at lowering blood glucose, there has been an increasing focus on the underlying issue of hyperinsulinemia, chronically excessive/high circulating insulin. The reframing of type 2 diabetes treatment in the context of normalizing and lowering insulin demands with life style changes appears to greatly improve glucose normalization and fats loss.
This simplified chart from Dr Ted Naiman illustrates why this may be so:-
- Two) A lifestyle that is carbs lite and fats friendly greatly lowers our insulin requirements. Following the sun, eating only during day time further improves our circadian rhythm and extend our fasting hours. Giving our exhausted and impaired beta cells the opportunity to rest and regenerate.

I have heard people that reverse type 2 by resetting their system with a 7 day water fasting and with a whole food vegan diet. This means eating whole fruits and other starches but as a whole food diet. There are people saying that fats are the leading cause of type 2 diabetes and other saying that is the carbs.
