The Day of the Dead

in diadelosmuertos •  6 years ago

Dia Day Los Muertos is a mexican holiday that has escaped its native boundaries into central America and the southwestern United States. It spans several days in late October /early November, coinciding with All Saint's Eve, All Saints Day and All SOuls' Day.

This holiday is celebrated by building altars for deceased loved ones called Ofrendas, which typically consist of marigolds, possessions of the deceased and their favorite foods and beverages. Throughout the regions where the holiday is celebrated, many parades are held, along with gatherings at cemeteries.

While celebrations differ from region to region, Dia De Los Muertos is an important tradition, marked by colorful decorations including picado banners as well as sugar skulls. The occasion is marked by dancing, food and tributes to the dead, with many people getting their faces painted in the signature skull style.

So colourful and festive! I saw this just after I watched "Coco" (the animated movie) again, so it all came thematic to me. Great pictures.

Amazing pictures and loved the way you described them.
