Navigating the Watery World: Understanding Causes, Symptoms, and Remedies for Diarrhea

in diarrhea •  last year
Diarrhea is a condition when the sufferer defecates more often than usual. A person can be said to have diarrhea if he defecate three or more times in one day. In addition, the feces that are excreted are also more watery. Diarrhea is usually caused by a virus or, sometimes, contaminated food. It is rarely a sign of another disorder, such as inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowel syndrome. Most diarrhea is caused by a viral or bacterial infection in the large intestine that comes from the food or drink consumed. However, diarrhea that lasts a long time can result from inflammation in the digestive tract. Symptoms can include frequent watery bowel movements and abdominal pain. Most cases resolve on their own. Some infections may need antibiotics. Severe cases can lead to dehydration requiring intravenous fluids. Diarrhea can also be caused by things other than illness. Examples include a liquid diet, food intolerance, stress, anxiety, or use of laxatives.
