H&M UNDER HEAT BY HIP-HOP

in diddy •  7 years ago

Diddy has done something great for the culture and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Recently  there has been a social media uproar over H&M's recent promotion  that featured a young Black child in a "Coolest monkey in the jungle"  sweater.

This  is unfortunately not the first time that something like this has  happened with the major clothing brand. There was a incident before  where a head cap was featured with the color scheme written as  "Ni**er  brown" It was taken down almost immediately just as this one with the  young boy was. This is indecent and racist no matter how you look at it.  H&M has since apologized for the fiasco but it doesn't seem to have  helped there tainted reputation too much.

This  incident has been focused on over the last couple of days and has shed  light on racism in major clothing companies. Of course this has caught  the attention of many Hip Hop stars and activist's, along with the hip  hop mogul P.Diddy. Diddy has since offered the young boy a 1 Million  dollar contract to model for Sean John clothing. The offer has not been  accepted yet but I'm sure somewhere down the line that 1 million dollars  will be accounted for by signing the contract.

The  boys mother who is from Kenya and lives currently in Stockholm , Sweden  has released a statement saying that American stars have blown this way  out of proportion and that there are bigger problems in the world such  as hunger. She may not fully understand the impact of whats going on in  the US as referring to kids as monkey (as in 'cheeky little monkey') is a  term of endearment in other parts of the world.

H&M  has released 2 public apologies on the matter although its still  unclear how everybody is feeling about it. For now I can assume that  they have lost out on a lot of money so far.

After the  photo was blown up on social media, singer "The Weekend" posted an  amended image of the model with a crown on his social media account and  said that he will be cutting ties with H&M and terminating there  contract together.

G-Eazy also announced that he had a  clothing line dropping with H&M and he was very excited about it  until seeing the disturbing image. He decided to also cut ties with the  company. He stated on his social media "I cant allow for my name and  brand to be associated with a company that could let this happen, I hope  that this situation will serve as a wake up call that H&M and other  companies need to get on track and become more racially and culturally  aware, as well as more diverse at every level."
