Ketogenic Diet

I was looking for a way to lose at least 10 pounds three weeks ago. I had heard about Dr Akins low carb diet years ago and started investigating how it worked. What I found was that it has evolved into a new diet called the ketogenic diet.

What this means is you eat a high fat diet with low carbs and medium protein intake. Our western diet is a high carb all you need to do is read the average carbohydrate content of your daily foods. Carbohydrates are sugars and they increase insulin levels in your bloodstream. Your body through the liver can't store much of it and guess what it does to the excess?

Yep, abracadabra it turns to fat. I'm not going to get technical in this basic article but really restricting your carbohydrates creates ketosis or ketones that burn fat both the fat your now eating as well as the fat in your tummy and other places you don't want it.

Bottom line is I've lost 11 pounds! It wasn't easy giving up the diet I've been eating since I was young eating breads, pasta, pizza, soda etc. But I learned just how badly I was loading my system daily with carbohydrates.
