So, for dinner tonight I went to see a family that is really close to my heart, I visit quite often and I always get treated by the most comforting familyfood ! Today we ate vol au vent, a traditional French dish. The name itself originally has to do with the puff pastry. The creator of the puff pastry is Marie-Antoine Carême, when he saw the result after baking it, he said 'Il vole au vent' (translated : He flies up in the sky). And so Vol au Vent was born.
In France the pastry is filled with chicken or fish and meant to be an appetizer of some sort. In Belgium is traditionally prepared as a main dish, filled with a delicious mixture of chicken, mushrooms and little meatballs. Top it of with some mashed potatoes or croquettes and you have yourself a really great dinner.
