Man Blinded by Retinitis Pigmentosa Learns to Ice Skate!

Troy & Lynn
The man you see in the photos is Troy, who's almost entirely blind (you can see his foldable cane in his back pocket) and ice skating at Pettit National Ice Center. He has retinitis pigmentosa (http://www.blindness.org/retinitis-pigmentosa), which has gotten progressively worse over the years. As a child, he learned to ice skate and here, along with Lynn who is guiding him, he's working on it again. He told me that he really can't see much at all - a blur of light out of the corner of an eye. He took some breaks and got steadier (so did Lynn, she said) as the 2 hours of public skating progressed today.
Note the folding walking stick for the blind in his back pocket
Kudos to Troy for being willing to get back on the ice, and I wish you success! It just goes to show that even disabilities don't have to hold you back!
