Today I will be discussing the virtue Discipline from the Nine Noble Virtues which I am sharing on Steemit.
No matter what type of person you are, you have used discipline at some point in your life. Whether it was studying for a test, training for a sporting event, or something as simple as brushing your teeth every day. In order to achieve daily tasks, we need discipline to successfully complete what we have set out to do.
One of my first lessons in (self) discipline came from my father. In grade school, my soccer team was having a really bad season and I was no longer enjoying practice so I wanted to quit. My dad told me that if I quit halfway through the season I might make a habit of quitting. Not only that, but by quitting early I was letting myself as well as the entire team down. It was my duty to see it through to the end and then I could make the decision to quit.
Having discipline as a skill is one that takes a lot of work, but it is something that can be mastered with a little bit of training. One way we can work on discipline is by setting small obtainable goals and working up to larger ones. If you set the bar too high from the start, you may become quickly overwhelmed and quit.
Honestly, I go through stages of having really good discipline to stages of slacking off and it really bothers me when I do. When you don't stay on top of your daily tasks your whole world will end up suffering for it. If you put off doing something because of laziness you know you will have to pay for it later.
One way to test if you have good discipline is to ask yourself do you wake up as soon as your alarm goes off? Or are you hitting the snooze and delaying the inevitable? I know when I am sleeping in that there are usually other areas in my life where I am lacking discipline as well.
When talking about discipline as a virtue, and not just a skill, we take this skill set and use it as a way to always do what's right. It takes discipline to consistently make the right decisions and not deviate from an honorable way of life. Will you sell out? Will you do what people want you to do or will you do what is right? This is Discipline.
If you have been following along with this series let make an oath together to increase our discipline. Let's make our lives a little easier tomorrow by helping ourselves today!
Thanks, everyone for reading I am so impressed by everyone for taking part in the discussion!

Howdy sir badger! I'm so disciplined that I don't need to work on that. lol.. at least for the things I like to do, the other things it's a battle! So you are right, we need to be conscious of what things we're letting ourselves get slack about and man up!
Great post sir badger.

😂😂😂 Yes if we only had the dedication and focus doing the things we love, doing everything else!

Great post, yes, that important word.
Easy to say, hard(er) to apply!
I specifically like the point about quitting. This is an area that I think is tricky because I think there's an added skill to know when to quit - sometimes, quitting can be the right thing to do as we need focus to make progress. But you add that you should wait until the end to make the decision - yes, that's the key point. An informed decision on whether to quit.
Thanks for sharing.
