There are a lot of successful people in this world and they are very different from each other but there is only one thing common, that is Discipline. All successful people are disciplined about their work and life. I am not saying that you should be like a robot in order to be successful but you should be disciplined in certain areas like meetings, exercising, waking up early, giving at least 30 minutes daily for self realisation. So, What is Discipline? In very simple words, it is to obey rules or codes. You will find discipline in every field taking from nature to human, schools to governments and more. Why all these things are Disciplined? To maintain stability, control and make most of it.

Discipline codes are different for different people depending on their work, lifestyle and habits. It is one of the crucial part for a person success and followed by its venture. It is critical for self and society development. There are certain benefits associated with a disciplined person which are as follows :

1. Time Management? Discipline becomes very important when it comes to time management. A lot of people are not able to manage their time because they do not want discipline to be a part of their life and consequently, devote less time to their family and friends. A disciplined person always have more time to spend because he had already prioritise the things that needed to be done first and at the end, they are able to devote more time to their closed ones.

your last quote is pretty similar to this (not sure if this quote can be attributed to the person I mention in the article):

"the surest way to improve the quality of your life is to subject yourself to self-imposed discipline"

this perspective definitely stands out to me--i can't think of many happy experiences with self-discipline.

I am not saying that living life with comlete discipline is the only to have quality in your life. but there are certain things that needed to be disciplined in order to create a balance.

O i know, i was just referring to the last quote in the post specifically. just weird for me because i've always had a negative association with self-discipline.

You are not alone in this. A lot of people have the same problem.

True. For me is to stop procrastinating.

While I discipline probably more then the average person so I am told I have to admit its a struggle especially when you work on a project for a long time without good results, thanks for the post upvoted.
