Discovering Yourself

Discoverying oneself is a difficult journey. It is a challenge to be sure, especially when one has lived their entire life by following the same patterns and rituals. Thus, exploring oneself should be done in a systematic, methodical and objective manner.

Some people like to think that discovery is an individualistic process, one that is independent of abilities, capabilities, talents and personality. They believe that it is the product of personal growth, personality development. They are wrong! Discovery comes from consistent application of the same strategies for discovering oneself over a period of five years.

The most common mistake people make when they discover themselves is to develop a back-up plan. In other words, they attempt to apply a business strategy or an organizational chart to their discoveries. In doing so, they set up the obstacle of finding a new discovery in the same place as the old one. So, instead of getting somewhere, they stop and regroup. This could also serve to slow down the rate of discovery.

If you discover yourself in the same situation over again, you have to learn to take your failures and move forward. You have to create methods or systems that will work backwards from the original discovery, not the old one. So, instead of applying a business strategy or an organizational chart, you need to come up with ways of uncovering your hidden strengths and playing to those strengths. You can do this over the next five years by constantly applying the same strategies in different situations.

There is one more mistake people often make when they're trying to discover themselves: they use a scientific approach. A scientific approach will help you discover the patterns and features that will lead you to your goal, but it will not teach you how to achieve your goal. Scientific approaches only allow you to look at phenomena in the context of a scientific model.

In my case, discovering my inner strength was achieved after I took a few short, intense, and focused action sequences and followed them with a series of conscious decisions. When I did so, I discovered my true purpose, which was tied to my emotional and physical needs. After developing a series of plans and strategies that helped me reach my goal, I didn't simply apply them on my own. Instead, I put them into practice months later. Over the next five years, I made sure that all of my decisions were based on the evidence I had uncovered in my own experience and intuition, and I was able to bring that evidence into play each and every day for the next five years.
