A number of historical sources indicate that crucifixion was a method used by the Romans to apply the death penalty to prisoners, criminals and slaves.
The most famous one is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ confessed in the New Testament, although there is no evidence to assert the authenticity of this Bible episode. So far there has not been much archaeological evidence of Roman crucifixion.
In 1968, during the excavations carried out in Jerusalem, the remains of a man who had suffered this torture were found and now another good fortune appeared.
New remains were found in 2007 during a excavation carried out in Venice, but tests conducted by a Ferrara university team have revealed signs that the man was crucified. Specifically, signs have been found showing that his legs are nailed to a plank and that the nail has completely described the heel bone placed in the cavity.
On the other hand, they have not found any data to be locked, which suggests that the wings could be connected to ropewood.
The man's remains show that the body was not thrown in, but burned, which again assumes he was a slave.
It should be remembered that according to the chronicles, the Romans applied this torture to over 6,000 slaves captured after the Spartacus rebellion in the first century BC.
