I went into the shop today to buy a thing.

We don't sell it in your size, the assistant said. Go online and buy it.

So I did.

I don't think Medium is the be all and end all of knee supports. Seems to me somebody larger might need a knee support.

Guess we are probably all too fat to leave our houses.

The bottom line is, its an accord. Support your customers by supporting their knees and they'll maybe support you. But don't support them and they sure as hell won't.

Because they can't.

Choice is something stores take away. They often take it away from the fat first - you always see a rack of 32's to 38's in menswear, but the average waistline is now 40. Seems to me that, rather than 10 size 32's you might want one size 42 or even higher. Logic dictates that if you have 10 size 32's in your sale, its because those skinny guys have something nicer to wear they bought from a shop that sells better shit than you sell.

Or maybe they just ate one too many pies like the rest of us.

As a store owner I apply that to my selection too. Just because your items aren't in the Top Twenty, doesn't mean it has no market. Doesn't mean it has no consumers. And I bet those consumers really appreciate that place that they can go and feel respected for their esoteric lifestyle choices.
