Why Are You Here?

in discussion •  7 years ago  (edited)

Ah, the ultimate existentialist question right? Well today I'm not asking about why your physical and spiritual being exists in time and space. Maybe someday...that would be a fascinating discussion.

No, I'm being a bit more shallow than that today haha! I want to know why you're here!! Why are you on Steemit? Tell me a story about how you found out about Steemit/Busy, ect. Tell me what you love or hate about being here. Tell me your impressions, your successes, the meaning you find! And be honest!! Is it for money? To build relationships? Are you fighting for a cause? I'm not trying to interrogate you, I'm just curious. :)

I'll tell you why I'm here, and I'll be blunt and real with you. I want attention! Is this wrong? Is there really right or wrong when it comes to our reasons for posting and commenting? What do you think? The monetary rewards truly are secondary to me, although I do get my hopes up every time I hit that post button.

Sometimes I'll shrink back into my hole and not post anything of real substance for a week, but when I'm inspired, I feel that I have fantastic written communication skills, and I want to be recognized for it! Pure and simple. I'll admit I do have a couple causes up my sleeve as well, but again, I believe it comes secondary.

I think my best posts were my first posts just because they were the pressing issues on my mind when I joined, and they still are, but I already spoke on them, so now what? If I were more strategic, I would've saved the best for later, but really I couldn't help myself!!

When I write an article or post, it's as if I'm in a trance and I shut out the entire world. It's just me and my phone, and the noises around me fade off into the distance, which I why it is a good idea to write now, while the kids are asleep. ;) The whole process is addictive to me...

Anyway, I want to know about you! Why are you here?

Love, snowpea ❤😘🙂🌸

I really enjoyed reading your post, and believe it will resonate with many. First of all, you are asking the perennial question we all ask ourselves: why are we here? And second, I think most people are seeking attention in one fashion or another. It is a normal human need.

I am here because I learned about Steemit at the perfect moment in my life, when I was seeking a method or platform for writing regularly. I have a very busy life, and I needed something that would motivate me to write creatively (fiction and non-fiction) on a regular cadence. Steemit was the right thing at the right time. Very serendipitous! I have also found a community of fiction writers. I think we all need to connect with a tribe, and that is possible for everyone here.

I haven’t thought about the financial aspect of Steemit very much yet. I understand it’s very promising! That will be a nice bonus on top of everything else that makes this platform so worthwhile.

Thanks for reading, I'm glad you enjoyed it!! :) Glad you found your place here!! As far as writing goes, I think fiction would be to be extremely difficult... I have not attempted it yet, but I still love writing like you, and I'm following you now.:)

Great! Nice to meet your acquaintance, @snowpea. It sounds like we have some common ground!

Thank you @snowpea for your lovely post! It was a very nice and interesting read. My answer is that I joined Steemit to start blogging (and in the long run, vlogging :)). I run a small artistic business and I wanted to show my artistic and craftsman side to the audience more. I also wanted to express myself more, to create more. Steemit turned out to be very helpful in achieving this goals, just as I hoped it would <3 And as for the financial component, my case is that I think of it that there's possibility, not a guarantee of reward- but nonetheless it's much easier for me to motivate myself to create a post knowing there's this chance :) Thank you for asking @snowpea! Love, Klaudia

You asked and answered a question that I've been struggling with for a few weeks now. The fact is that it hurts my feelings when I post a poem on my facebook wall and no one says a damn thing about it. Imagine you went to school dressed as Santa Claus and no one noticed??
So, then I heard about Steemit from someone who did notice my writing and I thought it sounded too good to be true. Then I thought, well, so did Bitcoin seem too good to be true. If I had listened to him when he told me to buy a couple of Bitcoins 3 years ago I'd be in a whole other financial situation, so... I gave it a go. Here, I mean. Bitcoin is a bit beyond my reach yet, lol.
But I know it takes awhile to get momentum here, so I struggle with that. But that's how anything worthwhile is. If it just came right away then it wouldn't have as much value.
Posts like yours here give me strength to keep on keeping on! Thanks and good luck. I'll follow you to see what else you'll be thinking about.

Hello!

I joined this week! A friend mentioned this community and the idea of VALUE being what drives the community, I found that quite fascinating.

I have a following who wish to view my analysis of the Currency Markets, so this was a wonderful medium to produce such content.

Im really excited to participate and see where all this goes.

Have a great weekend
@itsdanmark

That's great that you found your niche in the currency market. I noticed that such analysts can become quite popular here on Steemit.

You have a great weekend as well!! :)
@snowpea

I started on here because of a mate who I feel has a little "something special" that most people don't seem to have, he put me onto Steemit. I first saw rewards (as everyone does) and thought... hmm that's interesting to get paid for writing! I quickly realised the amount of rewards I normally get is equal to working for around 20cents per hour. My workplace pays $32+ per hour. So yeah... money is definitely not my goal on here.

Honestly I'm just a bit lonely. I've got a few friends but none that talk about much of substance. It's usually football scores and how much alcohol they can drink on a Friday night... pretty boring. I get much more value out of spending time reading people's blogs and seeing how incredible people are from all over the world and how different we all are. Social media seems to be just ego driven photos and no substance.

I've recently picked up my game with my writing and actually genuinely enjoy it, such as why I ramble so long on comments lol. I also love the art challenges. I might put my art on Facebook and get 10 people enjoy it but on Steemit lots more get to enjoy it and I also get to enjoy others posts. None of my FB... errrm 'friends'... do art or ever talk about much that's interesting.... so here I am... Steemit for life :D Look forward to following you on your Steemit journey.

Thanks for reading!! It's so true that relationships here can have a depth that other social media sites don't have, and often times they even surpass the 'real' relationships in our lives. Despite some of the problems here, it's a great community.

I often get lonely too, being a stay at home wife and mom, and Steemit is a great relief from that! Thanks for reading this and following me!! I'm following you now too. :)
