Discussion: What Was Your Worst Job? I Clipped Fish Fins.

in discussion •  7 years ago

For the sake of engagement and getting to know the each other better, I have asked about your first car, your favorite song, and now I want to know what the worst job you ever had was, how you got in and out of it.  Did you learn or gain anything from it?

I will go first:

When I was 21, due to  I found myself in a difficult financial situation.  I needed a job.  I needed a decent wage.  I was working on my education, needed tuition, gas, food, etc.

Working for the Department of Fish and Game paid better than some other jobs that I might have enjoyed.

So, I spent a summer working at the fish hatchery.  Eight hours a day we would trap fish in a holding tank, move them into smaller containers.  Sprinkle some chemical on them that paralyzed them temporarily.  (I don't even want to know what this stuff was)  As quickly as we could, we grabbed a fish, clipped a fin for identification reasons, and tossed the fish into the river.  At the end of the day my hands would be swollen from the cold , I smelled like a trout, and I couldn't wait to get done.  At the time I hated it, when I look back this job is one of my proudest moments.  It is when I took my life (and fish) into my own hands and did what I had to do to reach the next step.

My worst job was working in the mailroom. It were a couple of weeks before end of year and I had to put annual fiscal prints into envelopes. Every other day we got a special job to do; Put magazines into an envelope. Although it was quite fun with my co-workers, the job itself was soooooo boring!

In 2009 I was on summer job in Italy...I was roomkeeper in **** hotel. The job itself wasn't so bad, but people there...hotel manager and other management was horrible...we were bullied every day...horrible memories...

Working with nasty people is not fun at all.

totally agree

My worst job was take off white hair of my father..
ha ha.. 😀

Hmm, I am not sure I know what that means.

Why are you not sure..? When I was about age 10, my father is always telling me to remove white hair from his bun.. He paid me for 1 Rupee for a one white hair.. If I removed 10, 10 Rupees.. Right now 10 Rupees are worth to 0.0653 US Dollar.. That was a very infernal job in my life.. 😊

Yeah that seems like a pretty rough job! 😂

I cleaned the iron at the factory. Garbage from under the machine tools, it was very hard and it was in the winter. The place I worked in is similar to the picture below. It was in Russia.

That looks kind of interesting in the picture, but it doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

No, it's not fun at all, I worked there after school and while studying at university.

When I was in high school, 16 years old, we could get out at noon if we were on the work release program. You could work for credits. I took a job in a nursing home as an aide. My first night I had to walk an elderly gentleman down the hallway. He immediately had a bowel movement on the hallway floor. I puked right beside it.

I stayed at that job for 3 years and my days were always similar to that first night lol.

Wow, that is a rough first night. I bet there were some positives that came out of that job as well.

Yes, absolutely! The positives were very, very rewarding :)

@whatsup - Ma'm I'm a house wife. Having a 2 years old kid & had a job before the marriage. It was not a worst job at all :) I loved it, but family becomes first. Sometimes it's hard to deal with my son lol :) Nice to hear about your story of worst job ma'm <3

Congrats on being able to care for your family.

My most unpleasant work at the dry-house factory, where you stand behind the conveyor for 8 hours, and it is not possible to go to the toilet.

Security guard in a mall at 18 years old (2001) I would have to tell former schoolmates that were still in highschool to pick up their pants or not wear spiked bracelets and chained wallets. It sucked big time.

Hey you, stop being a teenager

That does sound terrible! :)

My worst job was at the age of 15. I worked half the day in a clothing factories storage, carrying around really heavy rolls of fabric. My wage was around 3,90$ per hour (in germany!). At the end of summer I bought my first six-string for the earned money ;-)

I bet you loved that 6 string though.

Delivering flyers door to door for a painting company. I had no idea dogs could be such jerks lol. Every damn day running from dogs.

Ha! Dogs the bane of anyone delivering anything.

@whatsup,
My first job as a Junior Software Engineer! I had to start working at 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, but in most days I had to work extra time to finished the project which had a short deadline and finished work around 1.00 am in most days!
But next day again I had to start working at 8.00 am!
I thought if I am willing to do this schedule again and again, I will end my carrier at a mental hospital! So, resigned and found a better job!

Cheers~

Congrats on a better job!

To be honest i have not really had a job. But i taught at a secondary school during my youth service year. Youth service is a posting job that one does for a year to serve the government for just one year. I did quite like teaching because am not a very public person, but i managed until after time ended. Now am waiting for a job.

Well I hope you find a good one!

Thank you. I appreciate it.

I am still a student and I hope Steemit will help me to become an entrepreneur!

It is good you are thinking of being an entrepreneur.

I wanna be my own boss <3

I am currently my own boss. There are days my boss is a real jerk. :)

@whatsup in summer vacations of childhood i was working in a garment factory to full fill my education expenses. Managers of our factory were nice and cooperative !

Very good job
upvited

While in high school, I worked at a (fairly shitty) McDonalds which were owned by (marginally-noticeable) assholes.

In fact, they owned every McDonalds in town and they still do. It was disgusting. Every machine being used was absolutely putrid on the inside. The owners would also watch the cameras nonstop and call immediately if they saw somebody talking or using their phone. It sucked pretty bad.

i can't say that any of my jobs was really bad but sadly every one of them had several people who like to make lifes of other people worst bu being rude and nasty... this people helped me to find my way out from the working in the companies and to become a freelance that recently lead me to Steemit... so it all was worth it :D

I had no idea dogs could be such jerks lol. Every damn day running from dogs.
