Background
There really is no tangible thing we can deal with as a society just as there is no such thing as a Forrest or a mound of sand. You can check out Sorites Paradox for an example.

Changing the society is like putting the makeup on the person in the mirror instead of the person in front of the mirror. It just doesn't work. Society is a projection of the individuals that make up the whole.
No matter how many revolutions, wars, uprisings, movements society goes through, all the changes happened from the change of memetics. This is actually why I consider memes to be the true builder of civilizations: https://steemit.com/philosophy/@vimukthi/chintana-the-socio-psychological-force-that-guide-the-fate-of-nations-cultures-and-all-sorts-of-groups-an-explanation-of-the

Absolutely. Virtuous societies are made up of virtuous individuals. Moral societies are made up of moral individuals. Rich societies of rich individuals. If someone says that a society is virtuous, moral or rich and its individuals lack such a qualifier, then it's a lie.
Personally, I believe that the best thing that individuals can do is to concentrate on themselves and their immediate surroundings, and take care to do what they think is best.
The only real way for a society to acquire any of these qualities is if the individuals one by one seek to achieve them. Evolution.
Revolutions and all other similar ideas that seek abrupt changes in society are pernicious, not natural but artificial, and are thought by small groups of people who believe they can think of an idyllic society and impose it on others.
But it is naive to think that you can have an ideal society at the expense of people.

Amen!
Fakes will never become the real thing. Virtue cannot be legislated to existence at it cannot even arise from social pressure. This is why I'm against notions such as Radical Transparency: https://steemit.com/philosophy/@vimukthi/an-in-depth-critical-look-at-radical-transparency-and-its-challenges-pitfalls-and-the-eventual-spiritual-decay-and-the-loss-of
Virtue stands alone. Nothing can add or take away from it. A person doesn't become capable of seeing by learning that the sky is blue. A person who can see may not know what to call "Sky" or "Blue" and might even call them different names. But he/she still sees while a blind person could be a living encyclopedia while never seeing a color.
When individuals understand math, you don't have to tell them what answers are. they will figure it out by themselves. When people have the roots of good, they will do the right thing.

I remember discussing something similar a few weeks ago, about the panopticon. I was thinking what the results would be in a society where everyone is, can be, or thinks, that is monitored all the time.
My opinion is that at the beginning people would behave, apparently, better. But little by little people would become accustomed to such exposure and begin again to behave naturally, completely ignoring the fact that they are being observed.
Man always pays attention to what is in motion and forgets what is immobile, this is the reason why we ignore our nose even though we always have it in front of our eyes.
If this state remained for a long time, I believe that people would ignore it, and the results at the end of the experiment would be worse, because people don't fear behaving in ways, let's say improperly, in public, but on the contrary such behaviors would exhibit, then implicit support for such activities would be created.
Of course, it is only a hypothesis, and there is also a difference between the panopticon and radical transparency, although they are largely similar cases.
The social pressure, as well as the laws, as you mention it, and all these actions that seek to solve the problem in this easy and simplistic way, will always fail, because they are concentrated in the superficial, in the manifestation of the problem, in the appearance, and not on the problem itself, that is; focus on the theft, and not on what caused the theft; focus on the thief, and not on what caused the man to steal.

The thing is no aw can be enforced in a massive scale. That's why nobody got Court Martialed for treason on Christmas Truce. When something becomes the norm nobody can really do anything about it whether it is good or bad. That's what really happened with things like marijuana/weed/pot.
Even though they would come to ignore the panopticon, by that time the habits of people will have drastically changed. Things like cars and smartphones completely changed human behavior in the society.
Very true. Tangentially related:
The worst part of this kind of panopticon situation is the erosion of the lines of good and bad/right and wrong. When things are arbitrarily and artificially controlled, the breaking of these constrains won't bring people back to the old days. it would release the society into a state where most of them have no idea about right or wrong. Just think about the puritans who messed things up in the early 20th century. At the time liberals were fighting against these things. When these puritanical madness got significantly eliminated those liberals kept going and we ended up with things like third wave feminism and disgusting pride parades instead of just simply accepting genius people like Alan Turing as a part of the society.

In the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" Robert talks about change. How revolutions fail to change things because they do not change the structure.
Even today, in America, we are living in a Neofeudal society.
The only thing that has changed is that those who run the structure are well hidden.
The structure has been hidden, and a facade of bad orange haired actors have been dangled in front of us to catch the blame for all that is wrong.
The FED is one of these control structures, and the way out is right in our hands. However, most people want to take the marines and storm the FED and demand to know who the owners are.
This would end with everything staying just as it was, but with new names.
We could, at any point, throw off our shackles. We could stop paying taxes and use crypto-currencies. All of sudden, no controllers. However, then everyone would have to take responsibility for that power.

The only revolution we need occurs in the few cubic inches at the top of the spines of the masses.
