So, I was browsing the internet when, as usual, some weird news hit my screen. It was a story talking about big rats that make "normal rats" look like altar boys and are rapidly procreating to build an army of giant assassins as we speak. Yeah!!!
But jokes aside, these super rats are giant, genetically mutated rats that have developed a resistance to common poisons.
We have used the same rat poisons since the 1950's. As a result, rats around the world seem to be less sensitive to them. Research results on this subject are mostly coming from the UK but since similar poisons are used elsewhere, the problem is likely to spread.
To stop this trend, scientists and governmental authorities ponder what poisons to switch to. In areas like West Africa, where a disease like Lassa fever is endemic, it is important to watch out for this sort of problem. If super rats develop there, it could have serious health implications and could cause epidemics that may eventually spread worldwide. It's therefore something to watch out for cause that could be another bag of rats.
Questions: Have you seen super rats? Do you think you may have any around you?
Exceptions: New York residents need not reply. You definitely have super rats around you. Watch out!
In the mean time, keep your environments clean and have a nice week
