King Manasseh: In his distress he sought the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors

The conversion of Manasseh, King of Judah, to the Lord, the God of Israel, is a story in the second book of chronicles that teaches us that the Lord in his mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) and unconditional love (Agape) always listens to our pleas, and that he is continually willing to forgive those who approach him with sincere intentions.
The Bible tells us that Manasseh began his reign by doing what is evil in the eyes of the Lord. Manasseh forgot the God of Abraham and Jacob, and rejected the law of God. What the Bible tells us is extremely serious, because the sins of Manasseh were the sins of a leader and not the sins of a humble person, power aggravates the destructiveness of sin, and encourages social sins in common and simple people. Let us remember that the monarchy is based on the exercise of virtue, in particular justice, and at this point, Manasseh is described as a small tyrant.
The Bible describes some of his sins: "He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had demolished; he also erected altars to the Baals and made Asherah poles. He bowed down to all the starry hosts and worshiped them" 2 Chronicles 33:3; and also: "He sacrificed his children in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced divination and witchcraft, sought omens, and consulted mediums and spiritists" 2 Chronicles 33:6.
And so it was that the gift of peace was lost, and sin brought the war with it: "So the LORD brought against them the army commanders of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh prisoner, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon" 2 Chronicles 33:11.
But after these misfortunes, Manasseh reflected, and so he sought the God of Israel; Manasseh was forgiven by God:
"In his distress he sought the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors. And when he prayed to him, the LORD was moved by his entreaty and listened to his plea; so he brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD is God" 2 Chronicles 33:12-13.
