Can't find right shelf? MAKE IT!

in diy •  7 years ago  (edited)

Just yesterday I've made a shelf for my wife and she was as happy as a clam about it.
This is the one:

I enjoyed making it and today I realized, I don't like something back home. Namely, our microwave sitting on the floor:

So I've turned ON my mr.Handy and started with measures:

As a result, came up with the following plan:

Even though I was in hurry enough to make a mistake (try to find it =) ), in half an hour I was in a local store looking for lumber, screws and other required things:

I bought all this at RONA and appreciated their service of cutting lumber.
This is my damage at the store:

And me transporting what is to become a shelf:

Right the way I prepared for an assembly. Here is what I used to make the project become true:

There is something I had to do with just cut lumber. It was the edges. They are sharp and ugly:

I took sandpaper, let watered it and cut couple strips:

And here is some comparison of the edge before and after sanding it with sandpaper:

After sanding I started with mesurements for holes and joint screws:

The top part is attached to sides. Or sides to top parts =)

Bottom part is the next:

Once I got pretty solid structure, middle shelves are left to be attached. For that, first mesured and marked their positions:

Once all the lumber turned into joined assembly, I sanded all parts where wood was not smooth enough:

And then roughly mesured, cut and glued wool pieces for the bottom:

Finally placed the result at it's place:

Final result:

Next I'd love to cover it with some lacker. It will preserve wood and make shelves look better.
Thanks for your time.
