DIY Pet T-Shirt

If you have a furry friend and you like to DIY, here’s the ideal DIY mission for you! Why not make your very own DIY canine garments for your beloved pet and make it your next DIY assignment. Here’s an outstanding manner to recycle and up-cycle thrift store clothing and turn them into lovely dog garments. I am going to teach you to a way to make a dog t-shirt from one of those old t-shirts! And you can make these for just about any size breed dog; whether you have a Chihuahua, a Bulldog, or a Mastiff. Just follow the directions below and you will have your pet looking exceptional in no time at all!

Necessary Supplies:

T-shirt using to up-cycle

Model (Your beloved furry friend)

Measuring Tape (No worries if you do not have one)

Plate or any round object

Scissor or Rotary Cutter (Note: It is recommended if you have fabric scissors to use them for all cuts since it works more smoothly than regular scissors.)

Hot glue gun or fabric glue (Optional)

Step #1 Measuring

You will measure your pet from the start of their neck down to where their tail starts. Now take your t-shirt, place it on a flat surface. Use that measurement, to measure from the neck of the t-shirt down to the necessary length adding 1 inch extra to the measurement if you are going to use the glue to make finished edges. No need to add extra if not finishing edges.

If you do not have a measure tape simply lay the shirt on the your pets back with the logo side showing and fold the bottom of the t-shirt where you would want the shirt to end. Leave about 1 inch extra at the bottom if you want to make finished edges with the glue. Make sure to leave the t-shirt folded and lay the t-shirt on a flat surface with the logo side up.

Step #2 Horizontal cut

Now cut the t-shirt horizontally across the entire shirt either at the length that you got using the measuring tape or where you had folded it. At this stage, the t-shirt will still be intact with the bottom cut off.

Note: If your dog is long you may not need to cut at all. It all depends on the length you measured in Step #1.

Step #3 Creating the tummy of the t-shirt

To make it more relaxed on your pet's tummy, flip the t-shirt over so the logo side is down. Be sure to keep the t-shirt on the flat surface. You can use anything rounded for this step. Place the plate or your rounded object on the t-shirt so it makes a half moon between the two side seems. Use your scissors to cut only the closest layer of the t-shirt to you.

This should leave you with a cropped top layer of the t-shirt and the bottom layer should be more lengthy.

Step #4 Sleeves (Optional)

This step is optional depending on the length of your pet's arms. If your pet has short doggie arms or is closer to the ground you may want to cut the sleeves shorter or all the way off. If your dog is larger such as a Mastiff then you may want to keep the sleeves on. Ultimately it is completely up to you. To do this determine the length that you would like the sleeves to be cut and cut them accordingly leaving them slightly longer, if you want to use glue for the finished edge look, or if you not cut them all the way off. If you do cut them all the way off, follow the hem on the sleeve as your cut line.

Step #5 Gluing (Optional)

If you would like to give the t-shirt a more finished looked then you can use a hot glue gun or fabric glue. To give it the finished look without having to sew, turn the t-shirt inside out. Pick one of the three spots that you cut-back, tummy, or sleeves. Put glue on the edge of the fabric and then starting at one end slowly turning the fabric over just enough so the glue will stick to both. Complete this step on the three spots that you cut-back, tummy, and sleeves. Once finished turn the t-shirt right side out.

Now our t-shirt is done and it is time you try on your fashionable DIY pet t-shirt. I know your loved one is now looking fabulous!
