Failure is always an option!

I drink seltzer almost every day, sometimes several times a day, thus, the prospect of carbonating my own water and in doing so saving a few bucks is very alluring.

I don't want to make a full carbonating rig, I have enough crap as it is, but, what if I can take the co2 that results from the reaction of baking soda and an acid?, pipe it down another bottle of cold water, and then BAM! I have carbonated water.

Long story short, it didn't work.

My idea was to hook two bottles by a hose, one bottle would hold the water and the other the baking soda and acid mixture, in this case food grade malic acid in crystals form, then by allowing a bit of water back from the other bottle the reaction would begin.

Up until this point it worked as expected, but then i tasted the water and...

Nothing.

It was fine cold water but bland and uncarbonated.

I tried modifying the hose setup and shaking the bottles.

Nothing.

My hypothesis is that pressure is required, that's why all of the rigs ask for pressure valves and at least 50 psi I believe.

I'm thinking I'd be better off just adding the baking soda and acid to the water, I tried it and it wasn't bad.
