Who says dresses are for women and girls only? In many countries boys and men wear a dress but they call it in every country different.

Look at these images:

In China, Africa, India, Pakistan Saudi Arabia and the priest are wearing a thobe. I love the African outfit the most and it reminds me of the movie Blackpanther.

I made these two thobes for my sons using kids sizes that are available in my pattern book. I made the patterns from scratch, which means all the lines you see in the images I drew it myself.

I drew the basic patterns first before changing little details. Later on I made the sleeves slightly shorter and the thobe slightly wider.

I also made the neck opening wider otherwise the kids can not put their head through the opening.

My youngest son chose this batik fabric. He said it looks like a king's kind of fabric, very royal, the blue and gold colors together.

Because the golden details are horizontal, I had to cut the patterns differently.

I have never made this kind of neckline before so this was my first time. I watched a Youtube video how to to do this V neckline.

I stitched all the pieces together and I got stuck with the V neckline.I tried to the exact same thing as shown in the tutorial, but somehow the tutorial wasn't the right tutorial for me.

Look at the V neckline, not how it suppose to look like. It has a big gap in the middle.

I decided to fix it by using a small piece of fabric.

It ended up looking like this. When I wanted to start making the second one, I wanted it to be better than this one.

So with the second one I decide to cut the V neckline smaller to see how it will look like when attaching the neck placket.

WOW! So much better! Apparently, I didn't need the tutorial at all! This tutorial is not explaining it well and her way wasn't the correct way to do it. It is a pity I didn't think about it for the first thobe.

When the thobes were ready I saw the thobes weren't wide enough for the kids to be able to walk and I decided to make a split on both sides.

The second thobe is ready!

The kids are very happy with their Thobe/Abaya/Galabeyya

I think I have to practice more making different kinds of necklines. I am more specialised in making winter coats and blazers. But it is good to try something new and develop my skills and talents.
