MGN12H Linear rail movement after cleanup and lube

in diy •  6 years ago

So when you buy one of the fake (chinesium) linear rails from aliexpress, the linear bearings on them come with a protective grease to prevent oxidisation.

This protective grease is terrible as lubricant which is why the bearings never seem to slide nicely when you first get them.

In order to fix this, I took the bearing off, and took it fully apart and bathed it in Isopropyl alcohol in order to remove the protective grease.

Once that was done, I used White Lithium Grease to lubricate all the ball bearings and reassembled the bearings.

Now, as you can see in the video, the bearing now slides with gravity, rather than just being stuck and needing to be moved by hand.

That is a great tip. I have a bunch of drawers in my work truck on bearings, and they don't slide all that nicely. I'll try this.

Of course, now I have to wait for it to warm up...
