Books I Haven't Read

We are never doing anyone any favours by enabling them to be complacent in their poor performances. It is of the utmost importance to learn to give constructive criticism at every turn. This is as true for our peers as it is for ourselves. We most also be able to take on all forms of critique despite its intention and make it constructive.

I never will forget being a pretty damn decent guitarist as a 15 year old and playing for some kids that usually ended up telling me how awesome I was, only to have one 13 year old stoner kid say, "I mean you're alright, keep practicing".

I had never been given this response and I often wonder if everyone in my circle had just been yes men and high praisers how much I'd have been doomed to mediocrity. From that pivotal seemingly insignificant point I was determined to never give anyone room to be more critical than myself. This perspective and also knowing there will always be someone much better at whatever you do is key to being proficient. Not even great or good, just good enough, because with the right overall package and attitude that's always all that's required to be worth keeping around. If you're still around and focused you will improve and continue to be perfectly proficient. This will lead to potential flirtations with greatness and must not be mistaken for merely being content with being average. There is a subtle difference between proficient and average that is tipped by having the EQ to know the difference and demonstrate this imperceptibly nuanced trait to others

Thats this mornings coffee talk. You could go to trending and read chbartist or grab a self help book at a used bookstore store. Or you can hang out with skram and get the realest shit around. (free game)

You don't have to reach for the stars or pluck the lowest hanging fruit, get a damn ladder or climb that tree and get the good obtainable shit and hustle it while you still can. If you can't, hopefully you've done enough to inspire others to pick some stuff for you while they're there and share it with you.

Very well said. I can relate to that.

Especially that. Do you still play? Sadly I gave it up at some point. We had a Band back in the day too.

Yea, I definitely still play and have been fortunate enough to do some session work and writing/arranging at a professional studio in Malaysia.

I've never gone for broke with music, why that is, is a long drawn out answer. But, surely fear of failing myself and being too inconsistent is at the core of that story.

Thanks I'm glad it was relateable, it's never too late to pick an axe back up

fear of failing myself and being too inconsistent is at the core of that story.

that sums it up pretty much.

I am still doing music. More keyboard nowadays, but mostly I work as an Audio Engineer.

I would love to see your studio once it's finished!

Excellent I do keyboard stuff as well. Zero running of the programs, my friend that owns the studio does that stuff. We make a good team though but the industry kinda sucks here TBH. All talk very little walk. Here is a song I wrote all the parts on a midi keyboard as the client wanted all acapella, so the end product is a mix of the keys voice patches and melodies blended with the talent.

This was my first ever corporate thing, took so many hours..

Sounds like you're a good team! You don't have to produce for Malaysian clients, don't you?

3,8 million views! Not bad!

Thx man, don't have to by any means, I'd love to expand our horizons and produce stuff for any and everyone. Our strength would be diversity as its an essential element for this market..Reggae and Hip Hop are probably are forte. But, I have plenty of rock, jazz, and blues background. In a perfect world I'd take Mohini Dey and Danny Carey on a world tour playing mahavishnu orchestra type of stuff mixed with Earth Wind and Fire haha

Damn brother, impressive! You're right with Reggae and Hip Hop. Especially Hip Hop is going crazy right now.

I really like old school Hip Hop and I used to produce only that style. But all my clients want these new type of beats with 808s and shit :D

I'd love to expand our horizons and produce stuff for any and everyone

This is so important! I used to be very stagnant and I was stuck with my producing.
