Hi everyone... i received yesteday 2 new ati 480's for my mininng ethereum farm..
Fresh gpus, so i decided to make a new rig for them... (and after the testing, it was a good call, cause the 480's use new drivers from ati, and there is a problem using them with older cards.. cause older card drop hashrate almost 25% with the new drives)
So building a rig ONLY for 480's alone, is a must.
That super handsome guy is of course me...
Some drills, some tools, some wood... thats our recipe so far...
The rig will be 21cm tall in the front side, 12cm in the back side (for supporting the gpus)
Distance between the front side and the middle side is 21cm too.. most of the cards, even smaller ones will fit just right.
I know.. safety.... i usually forgot about her.. although i ve been injured enough times to learn a lesson :/
The main base plate, was cut at 40x60cm... in order to fit the power supply behind the medium gpu holder.
I use screws to put everything together, in order for the wood not to crack.. cause its thin, first you drill with a drill a size smaller than the screw... and then with another drill (for faster work) you screw the screws..
It would be better if i used wood glue together with screws, but i usually do it, on quality furniture.
The sun was too hot... and i really got sweat and bored after 10 minutes of building...
Lets see if the rumors are true, and that ati 480s draw more than 75 watts over the motherboard... That would probably melt some wires on the pci-e rizer...
The psu is an Evga 1200w platinum, probably an overkill for 4 x 480 that i plan to put on this rig..
For the moment the motherboard is 2 slot pci express with an first gen Amd Apu on it.. and 8gb of colorfull,
extra fancy.. super wow! ram sticks... :P
Windows 10 installation... i use windows cause its way easier to overclock-underclock the gpus, and i have all my rigs through teamviewer so i can check on them any time. SSD of course, cause booting times are way faster, and dag creation (the file that ethminer creates for mining)
Consumption on idle...
Oh by the way, i removen 1 gpu, cause i wanted to see how much a single one burns...
stock clocks... 1266gpu and 8000mem... hashing using the newest genoil and ethminer 23-24 at 190 watts.
so each gpu burns almost 150watts... fan at 75% could drop the temps at 67degrees celcious. On auto, it was easily reaching 80!
And if things with Eth price dont go well... there is a room near the miners where you can always unleash your hashpunching power...
Thats all steemians... keep posting... like keep walking :P
Good stuff steemychicken, can you change the clockspeeds in Linux with these cards? Do you mean you're mining at 23-24 MH each?

23-24 each... with 16.62 drivers.

There was a new driver announced by Ati that adresses the power overdrawing , from pci express.. i will test it tomorrow.

nothing on the wattmeter using the new drivers... i noticed a 4-5 them rising with exact same settings, and i had to put the fans 10% more to anticipate.

Nice work, I'm thinking of getting the same GPU's myself.
