A Legendary Set - Maceo Plex's BBC Radio One Essential Mix (2012)

I used go through 1500 - 2500 minutes of new music every week, which is the reason why I don't really remember titles and names of producers all that much. However, there are a few radio stations which I hold in high regard when it comes to cutting-edge dance music. Highly experimental and experienced curators / DJs behind them usually take plenty of time formulating mixes. It usually shines through.

I've been following BBC Radio One's Essential Mixes ever since discovering Daft Punk's seminal and mind-blowing set back in 1997. But that would be a no-brainer to recommend out of the hundreds of episodes since 1993.

So here's a legendary set. One that I always go back to every once in awhile to appreciate all over again.

There's just something so sexy and sophisticated about this deep, dark tech-house mix. IMO, there's no point trying to review mixes and all that, but damn, this mix even swings from funk to avant-garde effortlessly. Somewhat Vangelis-inspired too. It's one hell of a cool mix. It's like wearing a pair of sunglasses even when the sun is not around.

What would sex appeal in darkness and futurism sound like? Maceo Plex answers that question. Listen to it in your car, bedroom, party, whatever.. enjoy it!

Thanks for introducing me to Maceo Plex. Something I wouldn't likely have discovered on my own. Great driving music. :)

Oh i had it on for 3 months in my car back then when I discovered the mix haha! Glad you enjoyed it :)

Ok, now I've logged about 6 hours of listening to Maceo Plex's stuff and it's all fantastic!

Nice Set. I the 90s I have recorded a lot of the BBC´s essential mixes on mini-disc and fure sure as a german, I loved the H3 Clubnights with djs like Sven Vaeth, Carl Cox and other great artists :-)
Thanks for sharing :-)

Ah I was wishing to catch Sven and Carl Cox when I'm in Euro, wonder if I have the time to check them out! Nice, are those mini-discs still working?

Hey Kevin :)
Sven Varth has a CLub still, in Frankfurt. I think its still open and they hav a website with opening times and info on whos playing which night. I dont know if hes still active also i dont know if the club still is open, in 2005 a realtive good friend of mine who is a Artist too (he does poems & electronic music (minimal) so dj too. Well in 2005 he, my dj Friend took me to Frankfurt into Svens Club the Cocoon, i was only there once but it was a wonderful night i still remember good. He actually did get a few discs from Vaeth signed which were meant to be auctioned to get cash for a childrens private hospital where they treat mentally ill child with naturals instead of heavy medicamentation. And i dont remember but it actually brought more cash as expected and all who participated in this fundraising coup were really happy, even me who was just the driver of the organizer :D

I follow Sven's mixes once a while, he has a very good one with Boiler Room! Thanks, will certainly check out if I can catch one of his nights - that guy's non-stop!

Me too. I really have to figure out if my mini-discs are still working ;-)
Svens Cocoon Club which was located Frankfurt/ Main, has been closed in november 2012.

Resteemed ;)
