The most interesting aspect of this survey by Pew Research is the international views of China. The survey shows that the international community is almost equally divided in their views of China.

The findings underscore the fact that people's view of another country is largely subjective. It is influenced by people's own model of the world rather than the objective facts pertaining to the country. For instance, Russians, who were under a communist regime previously, have a highly favorable view of China than the people of democratic nations like the USA and Europe. Developed countries tend to have a negative view of China compared to the non-developed countries. Likewise historical factors seem to have influenced the Japanese to have a negative view of China.
