That is the right thing to do if any country wants to ensure that it does not become beholden to China. China's motivations are questionable given that they are not interested in protecting the legitimate interests of any other country other than China.

The new rules tightening cybersecurity in Japan do not mention the Chinese companies by name, but Beijing is already protesting.

Wow things are getting serious

China wants to replace USA as the most powerful nation in the world. Whilst USA constitution says it is "one nation under God", China's communist manifesto does not even recognize the existence of God. Herein lies the danger and you can see it in their behavior even before they have become the most powerful nation. Claiming territories (Tibet, borders with India, South China Sea), making poor countries become indebted to them by lending these countries large sums of monies for unprofitable projects at hiked-up prices (Sri Lanka, African Countries), and trampling on the intellectual property rights and human rights of others with impunity.
