Of all the myths we’re told these days, there’s none quite so funny and strange as this one: soon enough, we’ll have a work-free world — all we need is technology! And then people will be free to do…

Completely incorrect story.  He missed one major point: the technology is owned by the elite.  The companies he cited, most of whom make their "inventions" off the back of government spending, use technology to enslave people.

The answer is open source.  Then you would see a much different situation.  The US has the highest inequality rate and it is growing because the "capitalists" are allowed to be monopolistic.

And do not think this is limited to the US or just a "capitalistic" society.  It is in all banker run countries.

I completely understand what you mean, but we have to consider that this was written by someone who is still living on the "old world". And I think he raised interesting points.

I share your conviction and I can only hope it will change soon, because the sooner the better. Slavery lasted for over 300 years and this new form of "enslavement" only now has begun, unfortunately.

Yes, technology help to less work. But without work the world is impossible.

The concept of "work" is misunderstood especially by older people, the world is changing and so everything along with it.

Example, germany has lowered the weekly working hours from 8h to 7h, and the production as stayed the same and even grew in some sectors... They are already planning to lower it to 6h. Which means that machines can do the "hard work" and we wont need to work in a stupid scale like we do today, never seeing the family and things like that...
