Rutgers fires coach Chris Ash after big loss to Michigan

Poor Chris Ash. This is what happens when your football program hasn't gone anywhere in the last five years. Getting shut out by a decent team was the last nail on the coffin for that head coach. I wouldn't say it's the right or wrong move, but Rutgers has to look out for its own interest.

Some coaches received the boot for less. Take Les Miles, for example, LSU sent him packing. Over what? A 2-2 start of a season after a loss to Auburn. We are talking about a guy that led LSU to national championship in 2007 and a 77% win rate there.

Some people have different expectations, I guess.

Point being, I don't see any reason why anyone would want to coach for Rutgers. They are the current bottom feeders in the Big Ten and will likely stay so in the foreseeable future. I also don't see how they will start winning more than 15% of their conference games.

Forget about making a bowl game. It would impressive me if they started winning more than 3 conference games a year.

But, things can change with the right coach. Take Bronco Mendenhall's case, for example. He left BYU after lackluster performances since the university went independent in 2010. Since then, he's been doing all right at UVA. In fact, they started having winning seasons and qualified for bowl games.

Sometimes, it's not about someone being not good enough for the job. Sometimes, it's not the right fit. I wish Chris Ash luck.
