It is hard to walk away from $100 million in guaranteed money. That is exactly what Stephen Strasburg did. It turned out to be the right move.
instead of collecting $100 million from the Washington Nationals over the next 4 years, Strasburg will take in $245 million over the next 7. Actually that is the terms of the contract but reports are that $80 million is deferred until after the contract ends. That $80 million will be paid over 3 years.
This was a move that most expected although the numbers are a bit of a surprise. Strasburg re-signing with the Nats was what most predicted.
