This Wired documentary, being two years old, is likely outdated in China"s fast moving technology industry. Yet it gives a glimpse, to me at least, of what the non-proprietary world of 3D Printing is going to mean.
To me the Open Source (GPL) license always seemed more of a manifesto than a copyright. It seems there are many in Communist China that would agree with that.
If you love open source as much as me than you are likely to find this documentary worth the watch.

China is showing itself to be a player in the world of technology. It is going to be a leader in AI in a few years.

Agreed, @gattino. One powerful force in that growth will be the non-proprietary nature of their approach in my opinion. Dealing with Industrial Age copyrights just stifles innovation.
