Fellow dutch countryman Van der Vaart, claims Van dijk shouldnt be the best player in the world when football legends, messi and ronaldo are still in the limelight, scoring goals, fronting headlines and making impacts in their respective teams. Although he admitted how special/super talented Van dijk and that it would be unfair to compare the stats of defenders to those of forwards, very different roles/positions if you ask me. He was quoted saying
“Messi and Ronaldo are the best, but you cannot compare defenders and attackers.”
