Urbanist Richard Florida on what splitting Amazon HQ2 means for cities: ‘It never was about a second headquarters’ – GeekWire

Bingo! They always intended on NYC and DC for an office. I have to say I fell for it when they originally claimed they were conducting a wide search for a second headquarters. I didn't think it would be NYC or DC because they wouldn't need to search much for that. I just hoped they wouldn't put it in Buffalo where I live. My city actually offered them a huge chunk of downtown. Gentrification and soaring housing prices are already hurting people here and the jobs they bring are not for the average working class people of this city.

From the article:

Florida claimed early on that Amazon’s very public search for a second headquarters was really about creating a “large-scale, crowdsourced corporate locational strategy.”
