Rafa Benitez has denied he left Newcastle United solely because he would double his salary in China, insisting he simply did not trust owner Mike Ashley anymore. Newcastle’s managing director Lee Charnley used the matchday programme for the Arsenal game on Sunday to claim they had done everything possible to persuade Benitez to sign a new contract, but could not match the £12m salary he had been offered by Dalian Yifang
