France and Facebook announce partnership against online hate speech – POLITICO

Sure I've seen some of it.

I don't believe that trans people are taking over the world, but if someone does, why shouldn't they be allowed to talk about it?

lol, I must miss the Jew hate, but I am sure it is there. I tend to see the Islam hate instead, which I also think is rubbish.

Yeah, I see it... What happens when a racist or a bigot speaks and people speak back? Why is the best option to make words illegal? Serious question, because I am surprsied that someone like you buys into the idea of Hate Speech.

I don't imagine it shaking out much differently than FB/TW for steem or any other blockchain based network . Tech leaders will not mind the radical citizens as long as they don't have to worry about reputation too much , I did write about it some time back:

if someone does, why shouldn't they be allowed to talk about it?

It depends , if there is a history of correlation between such rhetoric leading to action ( violence) than I think that is good case for that account to be shut down .

This is not to say that platform owners don't abuse such legit cases to enforce their ulterior agenda , that's the world we live in , so IMHO it's always going to be a reactionary exercise.

edit 1: Dishonest actors on the other side will always claim free speech suppression even when they are mildly inconvenienced to spread their hate.

Regarding your edit... Maybe they are just talking about their beliefs.

Maybe if we allowed them to speak we could find what the root of the issues are.

Maybe we could address them, if we were adult enough to handle a conversation where we don't like some of things that are said..

Nah..

Surely , some can be reasoned with based on facts.
But not to be naive , a lot of them don't want to be reasoned with and dig in deeper when confronted with facts.

To be clear - I am not suggesting all of them needs to be shut down , only the ones with the closest proximity to actionable rhetoric.
Rest of them ( IMO) need to be ignored as the main thing they feed on is the attention from a stranger on internet.

That's just my lived experience though !!

I agree much of it is for attention. some of it is just talking. I've never seen anyone who believes in Hate Speech be able to define what it is, when it crosses the line and apply their thoughts both directions. See some of the craziness on this post alone.

I am not a legal scholar but I think when crazy talk linked with intent to action/incite action it becomes hate speech.

Like many things in life it is not black and white and require case by case consideration.
