Future Cities
By 2050 about two third of the world's population then is predicted to be living in cities as opposed to the one half of the current world's population. That would be around 10 billion people and it is more than double the current population in cities. This population shift together with the fact that most cities in the world are land locked and lack funding would make building of mobility systems for moving people around in an effective and convenient way a critical issue.
Smart Cities Council
To build such mobility systems the Smart Cities Council envision cities where digital technology and intelligent design is harnessed to create smart, sustainable cities with high-quality living and high-quality jobs.
Smart Cities Council acts as a neutral advisor to cities to help manage such transition. The Smart Cities Council comprise of a network of leading companies advised by top universities, standards bodies and laboratories.
MaaS
Smart Cities Council partners sees mobility as a service (MaaS) as an all-embracing solution that integrates all types of transport in addition to trip planning, payment systems and more.
They contend that MaaS represents the next evolution in mobility. It’s not there yet, it’s coming to a city near you or live-in.
