More from our Swedish Midsummer in LA!

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday I shared a sneak peek of our ‘Swedish Midsummer’ (Midsommarsanger) celebration in LA! And as promised, here is a proper blog about the whole experience!!

A dear Swedish friend of mine invited us up to her friend’s place in Topanga Canyon. We got a little lost in the hills, but eventually arrived just as the sun was getting golden and streaming through the trees. It was quite a stunning scene!!

I helped decorate the table as everyone started pouring wine and making flower crowns!

Then came the games!

I was excited to see what they were all about so I joined for a couple of rounds of egg and sack racing!!

The winners got to eat a strawberry or have a shot of Swedish infused vodka (made with lots of flowers and herbs from a summer field)

I didn’t win a round but I did get to taste the infusion anyway… wow!!! Like nothing I’ve ever tasted before!

Then there was dancing around a flower poll singing Swedish songs… check out the Dlive video to see a glimpse of the festivities!

After that, everyone helped prepare the food, then we ate, learned about the history of the celebration, sang Swedish summer songs and tried more varieties of infused vodka! (They weren’t kidding around with the alcohol!)

*By this point, Mark stopped taking pics, so we didn’t get any of the food… but it was absolutely DELICIOUS!! Smoked herring, smoked salmon, cheese pie, salads, veggies, pickles, mustard sauces, meat balls etc!

Overall it was an absolutely beautiful night. I so appreciate how close to the earth the culture is and how everything revolves around celebrating the summer!!

I’m now obsessed with Swedish food, so you can expect some more posts as I find Swedish restaurants etc around LA!
