[DLive] I’ve been totally spoiled by the STEEM blockchain!

the steem blockchain is the fastest on planet earth (at least according to blocktivity.info at least) and I’m constantly reminded about it! :)

I just made a little video about a website a lot like twitter, that’s probably looking to be a nice little mop up place when people decide finally get away from centralised networks and jump all in on decentralisation where there is no ads or issues with freedom of speech — I know that’s very much a hot topic these days as the world seemingly rapidly changes.

so the website in question is called peepeth.com and you can find me at my respective address of https://peepeth.com/teamhumble — it’s an ethereum based twitter clone (kinda) that uses metamask to deal with all the payments/gas and all that you need to use when storing and saving messages.

It’s got this bloody lovely feature of storing up to 15 ‘peeps’ as it’s called on IPFS and then you can push them firmly to the blockchain as permanent posts, I’m a little bit OCD so I’m always pushing them around 3/4 but you can do it incredibly cheaply if you commit them up to max of 15 in one go which makes the sending cheap if you can afford to wait on them.

It’s a nice concept and in practice it works well, the twitter validation was kinda slow but when I looked at https://blocktivity.info you can see why, the ethereum network is at 100% capacity with 38k of unconfirmed transactions pending, compared with 0.12% capacity of the steem blockchain pushing 1.4 million transactions daily on average — no fees, in 3.5 seconds.

Man, I’ve been spoiled.

On one hand I’m thankful for @lloyddavis to have shown me the steem blockchain and for the first blockchain I really got used to because of the social blogging aspect compared to deep diving bitcoin as it was an easy transition from a non paid blogging background to one that pays me.

But on the other hand I’m now spoilt forever because it makes me realise every time I’m on any other blockchain powered project that some of these blockchains have a lot of work to do to even bring the usual experience users expect of a free service that just is instantly like twitter or facebook with their centralised infrastructure — in short, it’s a bloody hard sell.

Sure, you wait and you pay and you get the benefits of the blockchain but it’s like really hard to sell a tv to someone without the remote. I’m still gonna use peepeth and I really like IPFS and using my little cachet of ether on the site, meeting some new people and what their entry points are because it’s important to know who’s using this stuff and why.
