In this video i was teaching some group of students how to play a Double handed backhand. This is some community engagement that i normally engage my self in. Its more of humanitarian work where i usually help out many people to learn the game of tennis.

In tennis there is the forehand and the backhand side which are used in playing/hitting the ball. A proper technique is required in order to have a good control over the ball.

I taught these group of girls how to play a double handed backhand through an employment of some simple steps:

ready position, 1, 2, 3 and 4

the ready position is the starting point which is an equilibrium point.

Number 1 - Is taking back/opening up your racket. This has to done earlier or in time in order not to miss the ball through enabling you to have a good timing on the ball.

Number 2: This is bringing in your right foot/stepping in with your right foot. Its the right foot to be stepped in for the backhand and the forehand its the opposite foot. This enables you to turn well and hit the ball in the sides as required.

Number 3- This is the contact point of the racket and the ball. You have to contact the ball in front and not at the back. This is very necessary to observe as it enables one to have a good control over the ball and also exert enough energy on the hitting the ball back to the opponent.

Number 4- This is the follow through. After hitting/making contact with the ball, a player has to follow through and finish up the swing. From 3-4 is the swinging bit of your racket that finalizes the motion to number 4 which is a point where your racket is slightly above your shoulders. At this point you ought to ensure that your elbows are up.

Hope you found this productive.

Until next time!
