DNA, the journey to your ancestors - Tested!

I would like to share with you something I am quite excited about and that I did few weeks ago.

I did a DNA test. Just for fun and to know my origins.

There are different companies that offer to trace your origins, you can simply find them on Google. The one I chose is MyHeritageDNA and the main reason is that it was the cheapest at the time.

It is very simple actually to do it and the procedure is probably quite similar among the companies providing this type of service.

First I checked which one had an offer and in my case it was the cheapest by far.

Then, I registered and paid. Once I paid, I got a call in the next 5 minutes to present me few options that I did not take at the end and to set up my account. Very friendly guy, not pushy at all.

A week later the parcel arrived (picture 1). Shipped from the US, it is a small parcel as you can see on the pictures. It contains everything that you can see on picture 2. Picture 3 is the envelop you need to return. You need to pay the postage.

Some friends did it as well a couple of months or years ago with a different company. I read their results. They faked their names and origins (the most recent ones) in order "to check" and were pleased with the results. One my friend is coming from South America and moved to Europe and the company could tell that he was from there and that he had Spanish origins...another friend managed to know that he has a quite high percentage of "neendertal" in him (incredible they can know that!).

I am still waiting for the results. It would be lying if I was saying that I do not hope for something a bit special in my DNA, we would probably all do!

Another friend asked me if I was not afraid? Of what? Obviously, a private company gets your DNA and some people can feel insecure about it. It is sensitive of course but it does not scare me or anything. For the most paranoid of us, if you have a credit card, or a mobile or use the Internet, "They" (not sure who) know already everything about you.

The good thing with the DNA test is that it goes further than the family tree and may have something exotic to reveal.
