Tomb of Annihilation: Time with Kamadans

Another tale from our adventures in Chult!
(I've been lazy with my drawing)

We played last night, and while we didn't get to play for super long, it was still a good session! Last week our players managed to launch the control amulet for Vorn along with the rest of Yellyark, and they didn't realize it. This week, they finally made it to Vorn! They're not quite sure what to do with him, but they seemed to enjoy the sight of Vegepygmies peacefully laying down offerings to this wooden and metal monument in the jungle.

On their way to Vorn, they started out the night by being lost for a solid 3 days and just walking in a circle back to where they started. As they progressed, they had a bout with baboons who were not happy to see them. Our Druid, Baelitae, was the first to notice them. When she tried to offer them some food, it lured more out of the trees. Our Wizard, Cossie, put a handful to sleep before Baelitae quickly pulverized the others with thunderwave and they made their escape!

Last week the crew had a run in with a Kamadan. These are giant jungle cats with many snakes growing out of their their shoulders that exhales a sleeping gas to manage its prey. This week, its mate tracked them down to exact their revenge. After the party very quickly took care of this lingering threat, they tracked it back to the den (their guide had information on a merchant that would pay nearly 300gp for a Kamadan cub!). Rezena, the Dragonborn rogue, scooped up two young Kamadan cubs and made it safely back to the party.

Here's the trouble with having a Druid in your party, however. They want to talk to ALL the animals, they want to rescue all the things. I guess that's not terrible when it comes to avoiding the murder-hobo stereotype, but man does it flex my roleplaying and improvising skills! Now I get to do some research on how long it might take one of these things to grow up, as I think our party will try to have a pack of Kamadans to protect them when that happens. Instead of selling these two cubs, they want to raise them!

Now for next week, I was thinking about throwing them a softball, but I haven't decided yet. I was considering having them walk into another icy wonderland, only to see Artus Cimber and Dragonbait running in the opposite direction from an undead T-Rex. If this was to happen, Artus would have found Yellyark on his way to wherever and noticed and grabbed the Vorn medallion. This would give the party an opportunity to backtrack slightly and pick up their new shield guardian buddy. While I love this idea so that they don't have to get salty about backtracking later, the team will also be very powerful with all these allies. I guess that's not a terrible thing since Acererak can literally just will someone to be dead, but it may make the rest of the jungle a bit trivial.

Either way, I'm looking forward to continuing our journey!
