I haven't really been paying much mind to the whole eastcoast dockworkers strike thing. But apparently, the demand is for a... 77% pay increase? Like... currently, the base pay for ILA workers is $39/hour, and they want that base pay at $69?
I presume dockwork is hard, and my initial assumptions before looking at the specifics were that I'd probably side with the union, but looking up how many dockworkers literally make six figures (over half of the NY/NJ workers pulled in over $150k even before COVID)... I don't know, man. I'm kinda more sympathetic to the side of automation and robots that ain't gonna shut down supply chains while we're trying to get goods to hurricane victims up and down the same coast here.
Help hurricane victims. Cross the picket line.
