This is another one of those things that I wonder how it is that the actual occurrence was able to pass me by. I had no idea this had happened. The events in the documentary took place in August of 2012 and it is quite a shocking tale indeed.

The story is all about how some kids at a party sexually assaulted a 14 year old girl. As if that wasn't bad enough, the high-school boys that were responsible and many of the witnesses were tweeting and posting videos and images to facebook and youtube as well. This is the level of arrogance and stupidity that we were dealing with here. The truly sad thing about it was, even when faced with a huge amount of evidence that the perpetrators themselves put out on the internet, it looked like they were going to get away with it anyway..

The primary reason behind why they were going to get away with it is because they were being protected by the community because they were star players on the football team and in this particular city, football is life. However, then the hactivist group Anonymous targeted the school and everyone else involved and new attention was drawn to the case.

Anonymous blew it up and now this case had global attention. Every country was now focusing on Stubenville, Ohio and thousands of people descended on the city to protest the lack of serious attention that the case was getting. The city now was forced to take it more seriously.
The lack of empathy exhibited by many of the players and their friends is just shocking. The arrogance and stupidity shown by many of the people involved and how it was so completely well-documented on twitter and in group chat is just remarkable (in a bad way.)
I feel as though this documentary must be seen to be believed. It was a chance encounter on my part and honestly, it is extremely well-done and tells a story that could have ended a very different way if it were not for the attention that Anonymous gave to the story. (where are those guys now by the way? Is that still a thing?)
I remember when this happened. You are right, it was really shocking that so many people were so uninterested in getting truth or justice. It is too bad that Anon couldn't have done something more about that Brock guy who was a swimmer and basically got off with a slap on the wrist.
