Dogs have been categorized overtime as man's best friend, which majority of dogs have also succeeded in proving. Majority of Dog owners who love Dogs can testify to the love and warmth they receive from their dogs. Apart from the friendship and love that they have been categorized by, these our canine companions also seem to have other facts about them that some of us don't know.
Firstly, Your dog is as smart as a 2-year-old toddler.
Research has shown that the reason your toddler and your pup get along so well Is because they likely understand roughly the same number of words and gestures — 250!
Secondly, Your dog’s whiskers help him “see” in the dark.
Experts have observed that those whiskers pick up on even subtle changes in air currents, providing your pup with information about the size, shape, and speed of things nearby. This allows your dog to better sense approaching dangers or prey — even at night. Isn't this a plus to these lovely creatures?
Your dog’s sense of smell is 1,000 to 10 million times better than yours.
Depending on the breed, your dog has between 125 million to 300 million scent glands — compared to only 5 million for humans. And the part of your dog’s brain that controls smell is 40 times larger than yours — that’s true, even though the canine brain is much smaller than the human, relative to size. A human’s brain is about 1/40th of their body weight while a dog’s brain is only 1/125th. It's because of this particular quality that dogs have of an amazing sense of smell that we use at security posts and also as guard dogs.
Subsequently I'll be feeding the steemit community with more animal facts... Love you guys.
A dog’s powerful sense of smell is frequently called upon to detect anything from mines and explosives to termites and bed bugs.
