Today I wanted to tell you all a little bit about me, Kassidy, Baxter's mom.
In 2010, I started getting really sick. I was nauseous all the time, my stomach hurt all the time, I was sick all the time, and I was constantly exhausted. My family was desperate to find out what was going on and took me from doctor to doctor and medical test to medical tests. We went months and months with no answers, no help, and no idea what was going on. Even a pediatric gastroenterologist (a stomach specialist doctor) could not figure out why I was so sick.
It ended up taking 6 years for the doctors to find out what was wrong with me. I finally found a doctor who listened to me and believed me. He decided to try a new procedure that ultimately ended up discovering that the cause of my pain and illness was Crohn's Disease. Crohn's is a chronic illness that causes inflammation in the GI tract. It is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease, a term which encompasses Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis (which I do not have). It can cause a lot of problems. To learn more about Crohn's disease, check out the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation's page on Crohn's disease here: http://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org/what-are-crohns-and-colitis/what-is-crohns-disease/
I decided to share this with you now because today is World IBD Day. The purpose of World IBD day is to raise awareness about the prominence of Irritable Bowel Diseases all over the world.
Here is some information about my Crohn's Disease Journey, created through the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation!
So what does this have to do with Baxter?
This week I started a new medication. I have been struggling with my IBD lately, and my doctor decided that it was time to try a more intense medication. Unfortunately, one of the main side effects of this medication is prominent nausea for the first month. It has hit me really hard, and had me feeling really crappy and really sick.
And Baxter has been right by my side, like the cutest little support system in the world!
Baxter has been curled up next to me in bed, giving me kisses, snuggling into me when I am in pain, and bringing his toys to me.
Baxter takes care of me, the most that a dog can! haha! And what Baxter can't do, his dad Garett does a great job with. The two of them help my through my hardest Crohn's days, and I know I couldn't survive this journey without them.
Just when I think I couldn't love that puppy dog anymore, he finds a way to open my heart even more!
Love Always,
P.S. - Do you know anyone who has been affected by Crohn's disease or another IBD? Do you have any questions about my story? Let us know in the reply section below!
