Sometimes the best stories are not planned-the best stories seem to happen randomly. Out of nowhere events unfold in front of us and we are challenged to react. One of those events happened one a warm morning in August of 2017.

My wife could not sleep and was up early drinking her coffee and decided to watch the sun rise from our back porch. I was snoozing in the bed. I never have trouble sleeping. She woke me early saying that there was a stray dog on our porch. I got up and went to check it out and make sure the dog was not dangerous.

I found a very sick and/or injured dog who did not have the strength to be dangerous. I feel like she was on her last leg and did not think she would survive long. I had some work to do before I took her to the vet, but about two hours later I dropped her off. The vet's initial diagnosis was that she was severely dehydrated and suggested I leave her there for a day or two so they could make an assessment I agreed and they asked for her name. They needed that for her records. The name "Betsy" popped in my mind. I don't even know anyone by that name and I have no idea why that name came to mind, but that is what we called her.

My immediate thought as I drove home was how were we going to find a home for her. We already have two adult dogs and I didn't know how well they would accept her. As I drove further I began to imagine this dog staying with us. The thought was good. It felt good. I approached my wife about keeping Betsy with us, knowing she would not want another dog, but she agreed immediately. I was not shocked. Just happy that it took no effort on my part to make my case.

So we waited for the call to hear the diagnosis. We were not pacing the floor, but we were eager to hear how severe the injuries or illness was. We would find out two days later.

This is the first in a 4 or 5 part series I decided to share on Steemit. Over the next week I will share with you how this story played out. I wanted to upload these videos to Dtube, but I can not get the app to accept these files. Hopefully I will figure that out over the next few days, but until then, watch the videos I posted below and follow along as the sickest dog I have ever seen recovers and becomes a part of our pack.
